NAIJA LANGUEJ: BACK TO NAIJA PIDGIN | Eriata Oribhabor
Recently, some friends notified me of the dawn of a new awakening at the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) to the effect that, PIDGIN is now being used on the station. I thank them most sincerely for keeping me abreast of this interesting development.
Nigerian pidgin is a vital link connecting Nigeria’s multifarious/multi ethnic disposition. That most media houses (print and electronic) use pidgin in delivering programs is a reality worth sharing. We knew it was only a matter of time for a bigger recognition for our pidgin. I am happy it’s happening in our time.
Going by this welcome àdevelopment, I intend stepping down my promotion of Naija languej for NAIJA PIDGIN. This is to flow with the promotion of pidgin until such a time, when we are matured and ready for it as envisioned by the initiators led by Professor Bernard Caron. This does not in any way detract from the fact that, the ultimate destination in the journey towards standardizing our pidgin, is NAIJA LANGUEJ or any name called.
While appreciating the initiators of Naija languej, I want to specially thank key promoters of the language (as spelt) and all my followers for believing in a dream that will become a reality.
